Ranji Season starts again...
The most respected tournament of Indian Domestic Circuit has begun...Players from more than 25 teams...different states are gonna try hard to show their potential to National Selectors...
In a time when Indian Test Teams is going to transitional phase , some big names are retiring and some are out of form its a great opportunity for young players to show what they have got...
Anyway...I wanna put forword some changes that should be done in this format which is unchanged for time immemorial...
A) Number of team should be reduced...there are so as many as 27 teams in the ranji teams now...i think it decrease the healthy competitions between the player for the spot in the playing eleven...And it also decreases the quality of teams...there are 3 teams from some states like Gujarat...Saurashtra and Baroda from Gujarat & Mumbai...Maharashtra and Vidarbh from Maharashtra...I think decrease in quantity of team may increase the quality of teams...
B) The International Matches during Ranji Trophy shoukd be avoided as long as possible...Even being a huge fan of cricket i cant remember when was the last time MS Dhoni played for Jharkhand in Ranji Trophy...If Indian National Cricketers play more Ranji Matches...it will not only raise the popularity of the tournament but also increase the competitive level of the tournament...
C) Allow teams to play one foreign player for each team...it also raise competitive value and our young player can also learn useful tactics from them...
D) My last point may look a bit strange but i strongly believe in this...The number of player above the age of 33-34 years in each team should be restricted to 2-3...it will give more chances to young players to have exposure of competitive cricket...If you know Ajay Jadeja made his comeback after 7 years at the age of 42...I think that should not be allowed...If u have a spot for batsman in playing eleven its better to give it to a young player rather than someone who is 42 years of age and not going to play for India again...
I hope BCCI administrators would think of such new ways to improve the level of the beloved Domestic Tournament of India...
